POSSIBLE WITH GOD
““And those who heard it said, ‘Who then can be saved?’ But He said, ‘The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.’””
A certain ruler came to Jesus with a serious question: “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” (Luke 18:18). He told Jesus that he had kept the commandments from his youth. Jesus replied, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me” (Luke 18:22).
Luke records the man's reaction: “he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich” (Luke 18:23). Then Jesus said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!” (Luke 18:24). Notice that He did not tell the man to go away. He told him to come and follow. The invitation was real, and the cost of following was real too. Luke does not tell us what the man did next.
Those who heard it were troubled. If entering the kingdom of God was that hard, what hope was there for anyone? So they asked a question that many of us have asked at one time or another: “Who then can be saved?”
Jesus' answer is one of the great sentences of the gospel: “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” It is good news because it tells us where salvation comes from. We cannot save ourselves by our goodness, our giving, our upbringing or our effort. And, thank God, it also means no one is beyond His reach. Paul puts it this way: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9).
If the greatest gift can be given by Him for free, you can trust Him with any other thing concerning you. The seemingly ‘impossible’ is His playground. Trust Him with it, stay in faith and see His glory unfold in manifestation. .
